Preparation for life at sea

Firstly, welcome to OSCAR's blog! Regular updates will be posted here on the progress of the project, with focus on the different disciplines involved and activities that have been undertaken recently at sea.

As part of the OSCAR project, three research cruises will be taking place, focussing on obtaining oceanographic and geophysical data from the area surrounding a spreading ridge.

Research cruises take place on specially designed ships, kitted out with scientific equipment for a variety of disciplines from Biology to Geophysics. The scientific and technical party (of up to ~30) is supported by a ship's crew of ~20.

Recently, OSCAR project members have completed a variety of training courses and certificates in preparation for going to sea, including Personal Survival Techniques (PST) training for survival at sea, an ENG1 medical and Marine Mammal Observer training.
